Don Quixote by arterie Don Quixote by arterie
Another image from the past,...done in the early 80's, I was always carrying my drawing board around with me and box of colored pastels, loved to walk around Golden Gate Park here in San Francisco. There are many bronze statues there. This one is in the area around the DeYoung museum and Steinhart Aquarium.

These were crusty old statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza looking up at a bust of Cervantes. I climbed up on the rock they're mounted to and did this quick sketch from an angle the public doesn't normally see. Colored pastel on black cover stock.

Cervantes' creations live on in Don Quixote by arterie. I absolutely love everything by this amazing artist. I read Don Quixote and studied Cervantes a few years back so I can appreciate this piece on many levels. I hope you can too. (Selected by $matteo) ( Featured by matteo )

lol, I was just there the other day... for some reason. God, I honestly and truely hate you and how you can manip. every single bit of texture and lines into a style not cartoon, yet not all realistic. Just something that I can hope to aspire to later on down the road.

The first time I saw this I was substantially less impressed with it than I am now. Having viewed it at it's intended resolution and checking some of the intricacies, I must say it's a fantastic piece of art with great colouring and incredible imagination.

GREAT technique. Most of the pastel work I see is soft - these hard lines define the image so well. Great representation of the statues and their coloring. This is seriously high on the skills meter.

I love all of those colors!! I've never been able to use pastels very well, and I'm jealous. I bet the statues in real life don't look half as good as the ones pictured here! +fav

This is a wonderful piece. It is so well done. Your detail is beautiful within itself. Being an artist of detail, I understand how hard it is to sometimes see the overall picture and you put it all together. Wonderful.
