Artist's Comments

I am working on a small website for just my painted works, going through photos of past projects, trying to figure out what to post. I thought I would share this one from my archives, a commission request for a Dutch still life interpretation after "Jan van Kessel" . Approx. size 4ft. high, acrylic on canvas.

2004 Update: Wow,...Cool surprise. thanks DA,...:) Had to mention that there really are checkered tulips and you can still buy the bulbs. They are called Fritillaria and are in the tulip family. Google it, and find some interesting info. on the flower. The Dutch were fascinated by them in the 16th century. I believed they used the bulbs as money.

Thanks for all the kind words peeps!

This is the most realistic and stylish still life painting of flowers I have seen on deviantART, yet. Still life by `arterie is a piece that will allure you in to be making attempts to sniff the fragrance. (Featured by `leodadominico)

the twilight souls coming to us with inspiration and dreams, leaving us insomniacs...

acrylics are much harder to use than oils, you have to practice all the time, draw constantly. I had four years at school where I drew and painted at least 8 hrs. a day for 4 years....I was telling matteo in a note ealier today that i liked water based paints better than oils, it's nicer on the environment, not to mention the avoidance of health issues, and latex is much faster for commercial projects as well.

I just can't believe that you got acrylics to look like oil so convincingly!

Painting is not my cup of tea. But you are outstanding, Arterie. Keep the painting interpretations coming!

Jeesus Arterie, this really shows what kind of professional guy we're dealing with. It's a luck you have this on your features, i would have missed else.

I saw a nice flower composition in a hotel room and though it would be great to paint something detailed and beautiful as it was. And now i see you have made it already heh.
